District & County Council responsibilities

Grantchester is in the area of South Cambridgeshire District Council (telephone 03450 450 500) which provides services at a local level.

Councillor Michael Atkins represents Grantchester on the South Cambs District Council. Other District Councillors for this ward are Councillor Dr Lisa Redrup, and Councillor Ariel Kahn.

South Cambs District Council – Services

Planning – Local planning applications, enforcement and trees. Building regulations.
Rubbish collections – Supply and collect wheelie bins, supply and empty dog bins, clear fly tipping.
Environmental Health – Food hygiene, Health and Safety regulation, animal establishments, contaminated land, road sweeping.
Licensing – Control of events, and control of premises supplying alcohol, licensing private hire vehicles (vehicles and drivers.)
Housing – social housing (supply and maintenance) and prevention of homelessness.
Benefits – housing and council tax support, also Universal Credit.
Administration of elections and boundaries.
Administration of Council Tax.

Cambridgeshire County Council – Services

Highways –

  • potholes, drainage, weed clearance, gritting, lighting, grass cutting,
  • strategic planning and transport infrastructure.
  • important consultees on any planning application.
  • public footpaths and bridleways.
  • buses, school transport, car parking (tickets &
    residents parking)

Young and old – schools, social care.
Recycling services (responsibility for waste disposal.)
Planning involving mineral extraction.
Registration births, marriages and deaths.

    Dear Community News,

    Would you please be so kind as to advertise in your what’s on guide wherever possible our forthcoming summer open-air tour of Shakespeare’s comedy ‘Much Ado About Nothing. We are visiting ‘The Orchard Tea Rooms’ Grantchester on 11th, 12th, 13th July at 7pm.

    The show is preceded with a Director’s talk on the play and an exciting fun interactive session with the audience.
