Barton Road Closures over next two weekends

Dear Grantchester

Following our previous emails, this is an update about the delivery of works on Barton Road as part of the Barton Greenway.

As you are aware, we had planned for all works on Barton Road to be carried out as overnight road closures Monday to Friday. As works have been progressing well, we have identified an opportunity to reduce the long-term impacts for users by undertaking works across two consecutive weekends in October (Friday 17 – Sunday 19 October and Friday 24 – Sunday 26 October). This work will require weekend road closures, in addition to the nighttime road closures already in place.

This is a positive step in the delivery of the project and will allow us to install around 600m of new carriageway kerbs efficiently while minimising longer-term disruption for road users. The plan across both weekends is as follows:

  • On Friday night, normal road closure hours of 8pm – 6am will be in place.
  • On Saturday between 6am and 8pm, Barton Road will be open with two-way traffic lights and two crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists. Temporary traffic lights will be manned at all times.
  • From Saturday evening at 8pm until Monday at 6am, Barton Road will be closed to traffic. The signed diversion route will remain the same as the closures taking place during the week, with access maintained through the closure for pedestrians and cyclists.

The final phase of our works closest to the city boundary will take place once all other works along the route have been completed.  This will help to further minimise disruption for road and path users. We would like to thank you for your patience while we carry out these works.
