A punt on the Cam

Punting & canoeing

The river is navigable by punt, canoe and rowing boat from Cambridge up to Byron’s Pool. Punting is a particularly lovely way to enjoy the river and the meadows and lets you quickly leave the cares of the town behind.

Scudamore’s Mill Lane Punting Station (CB2 1RS) is the easiest place from which to hire craft if you are heading out to Grantchester. Punting to the Red Lion meadow takes most people 2 – 3 hours though it’s a bit quicker on the way back when the current is with you.

Traditional Punting Company are also in Cambridge (CB5 8AQ).  They are a family-run business offering top-quality punting tours at affordable prices.

There are many punt companies in Cambridge – I am not sure which ones are currently operating, although I think Scudamore’s are open.
